Radio and television presenter Carrie Bickmore OAM has been honoured as the 2026 Australian of the Year for Victoria. The recognition was announced at a ceremony in Melbourne on November 6.
Since 2015, Bickmore has raised more than $27 million to support brain cancer research. In 2021, she founded The Brain Cancer Centre to unite leading researchers with the goal of developing a cure. The centre backs scientific projects nationwide and pioneers clinical trials for brain cancer patients – the first of their kind globally.
Brain cancer takes more Australian children’s lives than any other disease and affects more people under 40 than any other cancer.
Bickmore’s advocacy is deeply personal. Her husband, Greg, died from brain cancer in 2010, motivating her ongoing efforts to improve research and treatment outcomes.
Carrie Bickmore’s recognition highlights her dedication to brain cancer research, alongside other Victorians striving to create meaningful social change in Australia.
