At a press conference held at the office of former city president Ashok Ambure, Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) leaders claimed that serious irregularities were taking place in the voter registration process to benefit the ruling Shinde group in Palghar.
The BJP alleged that political tensions have risen ahead of the Palghar Municipal Council elections due to manipulation of the voter list by the Shiv Sena (Shinde faction) with help from local officials.
According to BJP representatives, ineligible voters are being added while eligible ones are being shifted to other wards.
“We have submitted documentary evidence and formally lodged complaints with authorities on October 28,” said the BJP leaders.
Ambure and former corporator Akshay Sankhe, who recently joined the BJP, accused the Shinde camp of misusing administrative power to alter voter rolls.
The voter list is “seriously flawed,” they said, pointing to duplicates, non-resident names, and family members listed across multiple wards.
BJP members further noted that forms for voter additions or transfers—Form A and Form B—were being filled in bulk with missing mandatory information such as addresses or proof of residence, yet still accepted by the authorities.
