First and Last Bakery LLC, based in Hartford, Connecticut, has recalled three varieties of its tomato sauce due to a potential health hazard identified by the Connecticut Department of Consumer Protection.
According to the official recall notice, the manufacturing process was not approved or evaluated to ensure it met the necessary safety standards. Improper processing of low-acid or acidified canned foods can allow the growth of Clostridium botulinum, a bacterium that produces a dangerous toxin.
No illnesses have been reported so far, but the company voluntarily suspended production and sales until all safety and regulatory conditions are verified.
Production of the sauces has been halted as a precautionary measure while First and Last Bakery LLC works with regulators to confirm compliance and prevent future incidents.
The recall affects only products distributed within Connecticut and Massachusetts retail outlets.
