The Food and Drug Administration (FDA) has issued a warning after First and Last Bakery, LLC voluntarily recalled several batches of its tomato sauces due to a possible contamination with Clostridium botulinum, a bacterium that can cause botulism.

The recall concerns three varieties of First and Last tomato sauces produced in Hartford, Connecticut. These products were sold in 26-fluid-ounce jars marked with a use-by date of September 2026.

The FDA said the products were made

“without an approved scheduled process,”
creating a risk for the formation of toxins linked to botulism poisoning.

Affected States and Retailers

The affected sauces were distributed through Big Y stores in both states. Although the FDA also mentioned Stop & Shop, a company spokesperson confirmed to Health that the retailer does not sell the recalled items.
