Judge Gary Polk at the Riverside Hall of Justice sentenced Jake Haro to 25 years to life in prison for the death of his 7-month-old son, Emmanuel Haro.
Haro faced charges including murder, assault on a child under 8 resulting in death, and filing a false police report. Initially pleading not guilty, he later changed his plea during a felony settlement conference on October 16.
The court also ordered Haro to pay $10,000 in restitution. Authorities stated that he had a documented history of child abuse before Emmanuel’s death.
Haro and his wife, Rebecca Haro, were arrested on August 22 after Rebecca reported that her baby had been kidnapped by unknown assailants. She claimed she was knocked unconscious while changing Emmanuel’s diaper near a Big 5 Sporting Goods store on August 14.
