A humanoid AI-learning assistant, designed to assist with everyday chores, has sparked mixed reactions after a preorder was placed. Ray (@TeslaXplored), a TikTok user known for Tesla-related content, shared his observations and concerns about the Neo robot—a competitor to Tesla’s Optimus.
Produced by the Palo Alto-based company 1X, Neo is marketed as their flagship humanoid AI-learning assistant meant to coexist with humans. It promises to assist with tasks like vacuuming, washing and drying dishes, tidying up, and other routine chores.
“I ordered a humanoid robot for $20,000, and I’m already regretting it,” Ray admitted in his video.
Tesla describes Optimus as a “general purpose, bi-pedal, humanoid robot capable of performing tasks that are unsafe, repetitive, or boring,” positioning it as a direct competitor to the Neo.
The preorder of the Neo robot reveals skepticism about its AI authenticity and introduces a new subscription model, highlighting challenges in the emerging humanoid robot market.
