Kevin Durant on Cooper Flagg’s Future Greatness
After the Dallas Mavericks’ 110–102 defeat to the Houston Rockets, Kevin Durant shared his admiration for rookie Cooper Flagg. The 15-time All-Star and two-time NBA champion didn’t hold back when describing the young player’s potential.
“Cooper Flagg is a nightmare,” Durant said. “It’s only a matter of time before he gets it and clicks for him.”
Through seven games this season, the Mavericks rookie has averaged 13.6 points, 6.3 rebounds, and 2.9 assists, demonstrating flashes of the all-around skill that justified his No. 1 selection in the 2025 NBA Draft. In the matchup against the Rockets, Flagg posted 12 points, five rebounds, and two assists—another small step in his rapid development.
Durant noted that, much like himself when he entered the league, Flagg faces high expectations. The Maine-born former Duke standout now symbolizes a fresh start for Dallas as they move into their post-Luka Dončić chapter, carrying both opportunity and pressure on his shoulders.
“I think that he’s going to be a hell of a player,” Durant told DallasHoopsJournal.com. “He’s going to be such a nightmare that he’ll be considered one of the best of all time.”
