Korean actor Ji Chang-wook is set to reprise a vengeance-driven role in the upcoming Disney+ original thriller, The Manipulated. This series is a rare adaptation from a film to a series for Disney+ Korea, reuniting director Park Shin-woo and Ji to reinterpret the 2017 action hit Fabricated City.
The plot centers on Tae-joong (Ji Chang-wook), an ordinary man whose life is shattered after being falsely accused of a violent crime. He soon learns the whole ordeal was orchestrated by a mastermind, Yo-han (Do Kyung-soo from EXO), and embarks on a quest for revenge.
“When the idea of turning it into a drama first came up, Ji showed his willingness to join even before the script was written. I know he showed great affection for the project by waiting patiently for a long time,” said director Park Shin-woo during a press conference in Seoul.
“To me, it was a natural choice. Although it’s not a direct remake of the film, he did such an outstanding job that I couldn’t imagine anyone else in the role.”
Park also highlighted that the series format offers a storytelling rhythm that the big screen couldn’t accommodate, allowing for a fresh and deeper narrative experience.
