Jennifer Lawrence recently revealed how her challenging postpartum experience after her second child influenced her approach to her latest film Die My Love. The 35-year-old actress shared insights during an exclusive interview with PEOPLE at the film's premiere in New York City.
In Die My Love, Lawrence portrays a new mother grappling with the complexities of motherhood. She explained that her own life experiences added depth to her performance.
“I didn't really end up having really bad postpartum [anxiety] until my second [baby],” Lawrence said. “I think that just added another layer.”
She noted that while having children isn’t necessary to play a parent convincingly, understanding the needs of a newborn was valuable for her role.
“I mean, I don't think that you have to have kids to play a parent by any means, but having that information about, you know, what a tiny person needs, and is looking for. Just having that information was helpful.”
Lawrence and her husband Cooke Maroney have two sons: Cy, aged 3, and a baby born earlier this year. She has previously spoken about her postpartum anxiety, describing her fears during late-night moments with her infant.
“I just thought every time he was sleeping he was dead,” she told The New Yorker about her baby.
Jennifer Lawrence’s difficult postpartum period added emotional insight that enriched her portrayal of motherhood in Die My Love, bringing authenticity to her role.
