SALT LAKE CITY — Elder Gérald Caussé, a native of France and former Presiding Bishop of The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints, has been called and ordained as the newest member of the Church’s Quorum of the Twelve Apostles.
The ordination took place on Thursday under the direction of President Dallin H. Oaks, along with the First Presidency and members of the Quorum of the Twelve Apostles. The Quorum serves as the Church’s second-highest governing body, with its members acting as special witnesses of Christ and overseeing worldwide administrative work.
“I’ve always had a testimony of Jesus Christ,” Elder Caussé said. “And I know He’s our Savior and Redeemer. What a wonderful thing it is to be a witness of Christ.”
Born in Bordeaux, France, in 1963, Elder Caussé moved to Paris when he was 19. He and his wife, Valérie Babin Caussé, are second-generation members of the Church. The couple married in the Bern Switzerland Temple in 1986 and have five children.
Elder Caussé has served in the Presiding Bishopric since 2012 and previously as a General Authority Seventy from 2008 to 2012. Throughout his ministry, he has emphasized compassion, service, and the spiritual development of the Church’s youth.
