Antonio Brown, former Central Michigan University standout and NFL player, was arrested in Dubai and transported to Newark, New Jersey, where he is awaiting extradition to Miami to face charges.
The attempted murder charge relates to an event on May 16 in Miami's Little Haiti neighborhood, following a celebrity boxing event. Shots were fired after Brown was briefly detained by police.
Brown explained on social media that he had been “jumped by multiple individuals who tried to steal my jewelry and cause physical harm to me.” He added, “Police temporarily detained me until they received my side of the story and then released me. I WENT HOME THAT NIGHT AND WAS NOT ARRESTED.”
According to reports by the Associated Press, Brown was later named in an arrest warrant accusing him of grabbing a handgun from a security staffer and firing two shots at a man involved in a prior fistfight. The victim told investigators one bullet grazed his neck.
Miami Police Chief Manuel Morales confirmed Brown's custody in Newark, New Jersey, where Miami PD officials met him. Morales stated, “Let this serve as a clear message; no matter who you are or where you run, we will pursue the facts, identify you, locate you, and bring you to justice.”
Brown is expected to be extradited to Miami soon to face charges connected to the shooting incident.
Antonio Brown's arrest highlights law enforcement's commitment to pursuing justice regardless of a suspect's status or location.
