Former NFL wide receiver Antonio Brown is being extradited to Miami to face charges related to an attempted murder case from a May shooting outside a celebrity boxing event, authorities reported.
Miami Police confirmed on Thursday that 37-year-old Brown was extradited from Dubai to Miami. The U.S. Marshals Service public affairs officer confirmed Brown arrived from Dubai earlier Thursday via Newark, New Jersey, where he was booked into Essex County Jail.
While evading authorities, Brown posted videos from Dubai. Miami Police spokesperson Officer Michael Vega said,
“He was kind of taunting us, saying, I'm safe here, and that's what we interpreted from those videos, but you know what, he was laughing then, we're getting the last laugh.”
Officer Vega added,
“No matter who you are, what power or what money you have, if you commit a crime in the city of Miami, we're going to identify and locate you and bring you to justice.”
A warrant issued in June charges Brown with attempted murder with a firearm for the shooting that occurred on May 16 near Northeast 2nd Avenue and 67th Street outside the event venue. An off-duty officer working event security reported leaving after hearing gunfire and later witnessing Brown involved in a physical fight in the parking lot, according to the warrant.
Antonio Brown faces serious charges after fleeing the country, but Miami authorities secured his extradition to uphold justice for the May shooting incident.
