Texas Democrat Jasmine Crockett 'seriously' considering Senate run

Texas Democrat Jasmine Crockett Considers Senate Run

Texas Representative Jasmine Crockett shared that she is seriously evaluating a potential U.S. Senate bid during a recent interview with Dasha Burns on Politico’s “The Conversation.”

“I’m seriously weighing it to the extent that I’m about to spend a lot of money to get data,” Crockett said. “I’m a data-driven person. I believe Texas needs to make changes if it wants different results — that’s the bottom line.”

No Democrat has won a Senate race in Texas since 1988. Incumbent Senator John Cornyn is seeking reelection next year for a fifth term.

“I’ll be straightforward with you — I don’t think there’s a Democrat who can take out Cornyn,” Crockett added.

She indicated that when and whether she will enter the race will likely be a last-minute decision. Crockett also alleged that the National Republican Senatorial Committee is investing heavily in Cornyn’s primary campaign, though the committee did not respond to a request for comment, and this claim could not be independently verified.
