Jasmine Crockett Hit With Ethics Complaint Over Failure To Disclose Stock Holdings

Jasmine Crockett Faces Ethics Complaint Over Undisclosed Stocks

Representative Jasmine Crockett of Texas has been accused of failing to report her full stock holdings, which may constitute a violation of the Ethics in Government Act. The complaint, filed by the nonpartisan Foundation for Accountability and Civic Trust (FACT), alleges that Crockett concealed her ownership in at least 25 companies on her congressional financial disclosures.

Undisclosed Holdings and Potential Violations

While serving as a Texas state lawmaker in 2021, Crockett listed investments in 28 companies spanning pharmaceuticals, energy, technology, automotive, and cannabis sectors. However, her congressional disclosures for that same year omitted most of those assets — including shares in firms that may have benefited from legislation she supported in Congress.

Watchdog’s Allegations

FACT argues that omitting these investments from federal filings could amount to a breach of the Ethics in Government Act, which mandates transparent reporting of lawmakers’ financial affairs. The law stipulates criminal penalties for politicians who intentionally falsify their disclosures.

“When Members of Congress fail to accurately and fully disclose their financial interests, it undermines the integrity of our government and erodes the public’s trust,” said FACT executive director Kendra Arnold.

Legal and Ethical Implications

If proven, the omissions could expose Crockett to potential legal consequences, including possible imprisonment, under federal ethics regulations designed to prevent conflicts of interest in public office.

Author’s summary: Crockett may face serious legal scrutiny for concealing key stock holdings, raising renewed concerns over transparency standards in Congress.
