Before bidding farewell to the hit Netflix series, David Harbour took a walk through New York City with Esquire Spain to discuss his journey. A version of this interview appeared in the November 2025 issue of Esquire Spain magazine.
On November 26, Netflix will release the first four episodes of Stranger Things season eight as part of its three-part farewell. The next three episodes will debut on Christmas day, followed by the series finale on New Year’s Eve. This marks the end of a ten-year journey for Harbour, who gained worldwide recognition as Jim Hopper, the police chief of Hawkins, Indiana.
The latter half of 2025 was expected to bring wide media coverage due to the series finale. However, Harbour's visibility soared even further after the surprise release of a pop-based album last week.
Prior to recent developments, Esquire Spain’s Rafael Sánchez Casademont met with Harbour in September to talk about his career, the bittersweet ending of Stranger Things, and his future plans. This interview has been edited for brevity and clarity.
"When I was a kid it was this magical place. I grew up about an hour outside the city, in a suburban town in Westchester."
Harbour’s reflections reveal a deep personal connection to New York, highlighting its magic from his childhood perspective.
Summary: David Harbour shares thoughtful insights on ending Stranger Things, his roots in New York, and the evolving path ahead, marking a significant closing chapter in his career.
