Manchester United rising star James Overy has received a surprise call-up to the Australia national team for upcoming friendlies against Venezuela and Colombia. Socceroos manager Tony Popovic included 11 new players in the squad, with Overy among the promising talents.
Overy, turning 18 this weekend, joined Manchester United in summer 2024 on a scholarship before signing a professional contract in July. In May, Ruben Amorim invited him and other young players to first-team training at Carrington ahead of the Premier League match against Chelsea.
Shortly after his arrival at the club, Overy suffered an eight-month injury but made his debut for the Under-18s in February, according to the Manchester Evening News. This season, he has been a regular in Darren Fletcher's Under-18 side and has played for the Under-21s in Premier League 2 and the National League Cup.
