A foggy morning in Calgary on Friday shifted to snowfall, particularly in the downtown area starting around 8:30 a.m. Snowflakes moved southward after beginning in the northern parts of the city.
The day began with fog and an advisory from Environment and Climate Change Canada, warning of poor visibility. The advisory also mentioned the chance of rain, snow, and potential freezing rain.
“Precipitation was in the forecast for the morning hours, but our temperature stayed just cool enough to keep most of that mix as snow. Once it’s gone, it’s pretty much gone, and as we enter the 9 o’clock hour, we can expect most of that to fully back away,” explained Kevin Stanfield, meteorologist at 660 NewsRadio.
The expected high temperature for the day is 3°C, meaning any snow accumulation is likely to melt quickly.
Summary: Morning fog in Calgary turned into short-lived snowfall, with temperatures expected to rise enough to melt the snow by midday, urging caution for drivers.
