Mild fall weather will continue through Friday before a weekend weather system brings a mix of rain and possibly snow to the Chicago area.
Today will be mostly sunny despite a passing cold front. Winds will be noticeable, with high temperatures ranging from the low to mid 50s in northern counties to the low 60s in southern counties. Overnight, skies will clear with chilly lows in the 30s.
Tomorrow morning starts with some clouds, but skies will become mostly cloudy by late afternoon. Highs are expected to reach the upper 50s. Showers will likely move in after midnight, but the rainfall is expected to be light.
Weather models increasingly suggest that cold air arriving Saturday night could change some rain into snow overnight. Accumulations are unlikely at this point. Both U.S. and European computer models support this scenario to some degree.
"There will be much discussion in coming days over what exactly falls from the sky Saturday night and or Sunday night into Monday morning." — FOX 32's Mike Caplan
Author's summary: A weekend system may bring Chicago's first rain-to-snow mix of the season, though accumulation seems unlikely based on current model trends.
