A Calgary resident has been charged following a Cochrane RCMP investigation into a suspected overdose death earlier this month in the Mînî Thnî community of the Stoney Nakoda Nations.
Randall Arsenault, 58, faces charges of trafficking a controlled substance and possession for the purpose of trafficking, under the Controlled Drugs and Substances Act.
Arsenault was taken into custody in Calgary on October 29 after a joint operation between the Cochrane RCMP Crime Reduction Unit (CRU) and the Calgary Police Service’s Gang Suppression Team.
During the arrest, law enforcement officers confiscated approximately 69.5 grams of fentanyl and methamphetamine.
The RCMP investigation began in early October following a suspected overdose death in Mînî Thnî. The CRU traced the origin of the drugs involved, which ultimately led them to the Calgary suspect.
“The CRU launched an investigation to identify the potential source of the drugs involved, which eventually led to the Calgary suspect.”
This case highlights the continuing efforts of Alberta law enforcement to trace and disrupt local drug trafficking networks following overdose-related incidents.
