Emmerdale will air a special standalone episode on Wednesday, November 5, featuring a flashback that explores Robert Sugden and Kev Townsend's prison life, promising an unexpected twist. The episode reveals Robert's six-year imprisonment, during which he served a 14-year sentence for the murder of Lee Posner (Kris Mochrie), and his secret love affair with Kev.
Recent episodes showed Kev arriving in the village as Robert's secret husband, just as Robert was rekindling his relationship with his ex and soulmate Aaron Dingle (Danny Miller). This has led to ongoing dramatic tension among the three characters.
In interviews with various media, including the Daily Star, actors Ryan Hawley (Robert) and Chris Coghill (Kev) revealed they were unaware of the episode's flashback until receiving their scripts. They welcomed the chance to explore the history between their characters.
Ryan Hawley, 40, said: "So I didn't know I had a husband in prison, and then someone on set was just like, 'Yeah, so your husband is coming into it', and I was like 'what!'. To have this flashback, it's lovely to have that whole episode to kind of tell a story."
This episode offers fans a deeper understanding of Robert and Kev’s relationship and reveals unseen aspects of their story.
"It was nice to uncover what happened between Kev and Robert before they reunited in the village," noted the co-stars.
