Robbie Williams has resurrected the iconic 1990s TV show The Word for the music video of his latest single, "Pretty Face", from his upcoming album Britpop.
The Word was a cultural phenomenon during the early 1990s, featuring avant-garde musical guests on Channel 4’s Friday night prime-time slot from 1990 to 1995. Although Robbie Williams never performed on the original show, he recreates its spirit by setting the video in the 1990s.
“This is my ‘DeLorean Moment’ back to 1995 .. The Word was the late-night gateway to so many – Nirvana, Oasis, Happy Mondays… If BRITPOP is the album I would have made, then THIS would have been the TV show…. now a (virtual) reality.”
Pretty Face is the fourth single from Britpop, following the releases of ‘Rocket’, ‘Spies’, and ‘Human’. The album is scheduled for release on February 6, 2026, and features collaborations with notable artists including Coldplay’s Chris Martin, Supergrass' Gaz Coombes, and Black Sabbath’s Tony Iommi.
The album was originally planned for release on October 3 but was postponed.
The Word remains a significant reference point for the Britpop era, and Williams’ video pays tribute while bringing the feel of the 1990s vividly to life.
