At the first day of the Singapore International Energy Week (SIEW), Francesco La Camera, Director General of the International Renewable Energy Agency (IRENA), delivered a firm address on the rapid growth of renewables in new energy projects. He emphasized that the global shift to clean energy is gaining momentum, not slowing down.
La Camera presented key data from IRENA’s latest report to illustrate this trend. In 2024, global energy capacity increased by a record 518 gigawatts (GW), a 15% rise that expanded the total world capacity to 4,443 GW.
During his speech, La Camera gave a clear perspective on the roles of fossil fuels and nuclear power as the energy transition advances, highlighting the accelerating adoption of renewables as the primary driver for a sustainable energy future.
"The global energy transition is accelerating, not faltering."
His remarks underscore the unprecedented dominance of renewable sources in new energy infrastructure worldwide.
