Police have identified the man found dead on Hollister Avenue in Grand Rapids on Thursday night as 26-year-old Donovan Moody.

Incident Details

Authorities discovered Moody’s body around 8:30 p.m. on November 6 near Wealthy Street. According to the Grand Rapids Police Department, he had suffered a fatal gunshot wound to the head. The Kent County Medical Examiner confirmed on Friday morning that the death was a homicide.

Police Statements

“A very depressing scene to show up on at 9 o’clock at night and not something that the city of Grand Rapids wants to see in 2025,” said Police Chief Eric Winstrom. “We’re really experiencing historic lows in crime, but that’s going to be no comfort at all to this family, which is going to be devastated.”

Chief Winstrom also told FOX 17 that no one else was injured and no suspects were in custody at the time. He noted that there are several surveillance cameras in the area, which could aid the investigation.

Investigation

“It appears from my experience in policing and investigating homicides for all these years, this appears to be a targeted, very much a targeted killing, not a random killing,” Winstrom said.

Police are continuing to gather evidence and interview witnesses as the investigation progresses.
