Otti Dazzles Corps Members with Allowance Increase
Governor Alex Otti has approved a 1,150% increase in the monthly allowance for National Youth Service Corps (NYSC) members serving in Abia state. This initiative aims to improve the living conditions of corps members in the state.
Details of the New Allowance Structure
The Abia State Government's new policy raises the allowance from ₦4,000 to a range between ₦20,000 and ₦50,000 monthly. According to the Chief Press Secretary to the Governor, Mr. Njoku Ukoha, who announced the update in Umuahia:
- All corps members receive a base allowance of ₦20,000.
- Those assigned to Abia State Government establishments get an additional ₦10,000, totaling ₦30,000.
- Teaching and medical corps members are awarded an extra ₦30,000 as special incentives.
"This gesture demonstrates the State Government’s commitment to youth empowerment and human capital development," said Mr. Njoku Ukoha.
Previous Support for NYSC Corps
The government had also renovated the NYSC Orientation Camp in Umuna, Bende Local Government Area, enhancing internal roadways, installing power systems, and refurbishing camp buildings.
