The Greek government has announced that households can apply for the annual heating allowance until December 5, 2025. This follows the publication of the relevant Joint Ministerial Decision in the Government Gazette, with the application portal myΘέρμανση of the Independent Authority for Public Revenue (AADE) expected to open imminently.
Eligible households may receive heating allowances ranging from €100 to €800, with payments increasing up to €1,200 for areas experiencing extremely low temperatures. The allowance covers households using heating oil, blue kerosene, natural gas, LPG, firewood, pellets, district heating, or electricity, and applies only to the primary residence at the time of application, whether rented, free of charge, or owner-occupied.
For firewood users, residency must be in settlements with ≤10,000 inhabitants and specific climatic coefficients, excluding areas in metropolitan Athens, Piraeus, Thessaloniki, and Ioannina. District heating applicants must reside in select towns including Serres, Eordaia, and Kozani.
The amounts increase by 20% for each dependent child in the household. Additional increases up to 25% apply in regions with particular climatic coefficients, with caps of €1,000 or €1,200 depending on the severity.
Payments will be made by May 29, 2026, for consumption starting from October 1, 2025, with specific deadlines for invoice submission and data entry varying by fuel type. An additional payment for natural gas, district heating, and electricity is scheduled for July 31, 2026.
The allowance is granted for consumption of eligible heating fuels, district heating, or electricity for the property used as the primary residence at the time of application, whether rented, granted free of charge, or owner-occupied.
The eligibility review uses 2024 income-tax data and official electricity consumption databases.
