Minister of Labor and Social Policy Borislav Gutsanov announced that the maternity allowance for the second year will rise to 900 leva (450 euros) as part of the revised State Social Security budget for the upcoming year. This adjustment aims to support families while also encouraging mothers to return to work earlier, strengthening the government's commitment to balancing family welfare and workforce participation.
Under the new rules, mothers returning to employment in their second year will reclaim 75% of their maternity allowance, up from the previous 50%. This increase effectively raises the benefit by more than two-thirds, fostering both financial support and economic involvement for mothers.
According to Gutsanov, this approach "supports mothers while encouraging their active participation in the economy."
Gutsanov highlighted that "such decisions are achieved through dialogue and coordination."
Bulgaria is enhancing maternity support and workforce incentives by raising allowances and improving benefits, reflecting a balanced policy that aids families and the economy alike.
