Deepti Sharma has captured attention during the Women's ODI World Cup 2025, but her path to success is deeply rooted in family support and dedication.
Raised in Avadhpuri Colony, Shahganj, Agra, Deepti’s passion for cricket started by watching her brother, Sumit, play. Following him to cricket practice sessions sparked her love for the game.
Her talent was first noticed when she precisely threw a ball back on the field, catching the eye of former India cricketer Hemlata Kala, which led to her professional cricket career, according to The Indian Express.
Sumit Sharma, who once dreamed of playing cricket for India himself, made a remarkable sacrifice to help Deepti succeed. When she faced difficulties due to inadequate training facilities, Sumit quit his job and dedicated two years to coaching her.
"I told my father, give me two years. If nothing happens, I'll go back to my job. But if it works, Deepti will play for India."
Sumit’s faith and effort bore fruit when Deepti debuted internationally for India in 2014 at just 17 years old.
Deepti Sharma’s success is a tribute to her family’s unwavering support, especially her brother’s sacrifice, which turned her cricketing dreams into reality.
