The 2025 Emirates NBA Cup In-Season Tournament is designed to boost excitement and competitiveness during the early part of the NBA regular season, before the All-Star Break.
Background and Purpose
Introduced in 2023, the Emirates NBA Cup aims to create new traditions and increase fan engagement at a time when the NFL and NHL traditionally dominate sports viewership.
Commissioner Adam Silver said, “New traditions take time. But, all throughout sports, we are seeing new innovations, and now is the time for this NBA In-Season Tournament.”
Tournament Format
The tournament consists of two main phases before the final Championship game:
- Group Play Round: A monthlong phase where teams play round-robin matches within their groups.
- Knockout Round: Single-elimination matches including Quarterfinals and Semifinals.
Schedule Overview
- Start: Friday, October 31, 2025
- Cup Nights: Primarily on Fridays in October and November, concluding Group Play on November 28
- Quarterfinals: December 9 and 10
- Semifinals: December 13
- Championship Game: December 16
Gameplay Details
Each team competes against four group opponents once, balancing two home games and two away games. All Group Play games follow the regular season schedule.
