'Wicked: For Good' Teases Its Two Major New Songs

'Wicked: For Good' Reveals Two Major New Songs

During the live show Wicked: One Wonderful Night, previews of two newly added songs for Glinda and Elphaba were unveiled. These songs are part of Wicked: For Good — a project to expand the second act of the beloved musical and adapt it into a feature film with brand-new music by composer Stephen Schwartz.

New Songs Introduced

While short teases of the songs appeared in For Good trailers, the live NBC broadcast offered longer previews that also hinted at their context within the story.

Context of "The Girl in a Bubble"

The song takes place during a night at Glinda’s luxurious Emerald City headquarters. In it, Glinda mourns having achieved everything she wanted since childhood, now that she is "Glinda the Good," a role imposed by Madame Morrible and the Wizard following the events of the first movie.

Context of "No Place Like Home"

Elphaba’s song is a reflective and sorrowful moment where she expresses her love for Oz, despite being despised as the "Wicked Witch of the West."

"The Girl in a Bubble," sung by Ariana Grande’s Glinda, mournfully rues getting everything she’s wanted in life since she was a child.
"No Place Like Home" shows Elphaba contemplatively sorrowful as she reflects on loving the land of Oz that has been made to despise her.

Author’s summary: The new songs in Wicked: For Good add emotional depth to Glinda and Elphaba's characters, enriching the story for its upcoming film adaptation.
