Jay Som, the musical project of Melina Duterte, is set to release her new album Belong on November 7. Ahead of the album launch, she shared the single "Past Lives" featuring Hayley Williams of Paramore.
The two artists met in Nashville to collaborate on the song alongside Steph Marziano. Williams’ soft harmonies complement the track’s emotional tone, emphasizing its themes of fluctuating moods and fading momentum.
"Past Lives" is a powerful track with a dynamic midsection that feels like an internal struggle. Duterte describes the collaboration as “a dream come true,” sharing:
“It’s a dream come true to have Hayley sing on my first feature on an album before the recording of ‘Float,’ I still can’t believe it happened.”
She praises Hayley Williams for her kindness and artistic generosity:
“She’s one of the kindest artists out there and she graciously accepts and uplifts the people around her. We’re all so lucky to witness her talent and live on the same timeline as her.”
This album also marks the first time Jay Som invited guest vocalists to contribute.
The album will be released by Polyvinyl Record Co.
Summary: Jay Som’s upcoming album Belong showcases a significant collaboration with Hayley Williams, blending heartfelt harmonies and emotional depth into a powerful musical experience.
