Former Boundary County jail officer Bryant Brown, 37, is accused of aggravated battery following an alleged assault on an inmate in January 2023. The charge was officially filed in September, with a preliminary hearing scheduled for November 17 at the Boundary County Courthouse.
Authorities reported that Brown’s bond was set at $50,000 and has been posted. He has not yet entered a plea. Two prior hearings were postponed without explanation.
The alleged incident occurred after Bonners Ferry Police arrested a man wanted on a misdemeanor warrant from Kootenai County. The inmate was reportedly intoxicated, verbally aggressive, and uncooperative with jail staff.
“After exchanging a contentious verbal exchange with Brown, the man entered his holding cell. It was then, according to Blackmore’s testimony, that Brown shoved the man against a glass window inside the cell and struck him with a fist, causing his head to hit a brick wall.”
Detective Brandon Blackmore’s affidavit states the inmate attempted to shield himself by grabbing Brown’s arms but did not otherwise fight back. The report further claims Brown then gripped the man’s throat with both hands and slammed his head into the wall.
