ICOM Voices Past: Museum & Youth, from Leningrad-Moscow 1977 to Dubai 2025
A global organisation of museums and museum professionals is dedicated to promoting and protecting cultural heritage. [translate:Youth is at the heart of our discussions in 2025], as it is a key sub-theme of the ICOM General Conference in Dubai.
The Publications, Documentation and Archives Department of the ICOM Secretariat has focused on this theme in a special issue of the academic journal Museum International, titled [translate:'Youth, intangible heritage and new technologies in museums']. The topic is also explored in several articles of the ICOM Voices series.
As the ICOM network prepares to discuss the future of museums at the General Conference in Dubai, it also invites a look back at its history through an archival document. In 1977, at the General Conference in Leningrad-Moscow, USSR, ICOM showed interest in the engagement of young people in museums.
A working group from the Committee for Education and Cultural Action (CECA) presented a pilot project called [translate:'Travelling Box-Kit'], developed jointly by museums from different countries and children's parliaments. This archival document is stored at the ICOM Secretariat in both French and English.
