Twitch acknowledged it failed to safeguard streamer Emiru after an assault by an attendee during TwitchCon 2025 in San Diego. The incident took place during a live meet-and-greet session on October 17, when a male attendee grabbed Emiru without her consent before security intervened.
On November 7, Twitch posted a statement on X/Twitter, admitting the platform “failed to keep Emiru safe and to prevent the assault from happening.” The company expressed profound regret for the distress caused to Emiru, other streamers, and the community.
“Although Twitch works very hard to try to keep TwitchCon attendees safe and to prevent incidents like this from happening, we failed to do both things in this case.”
The assault sparked widespread outrage and renewed demands for improved safety protocols at conventions. Criticism intensified over Twitch's handling of the incident, with creators and fans pressing the company for stronger on-site security and accountability.
Twitch's admission highlights ongoing concerns over event safety, urging urgent improvements to better protect attendees and creators.
