Blackmagic has updated its free camera app, enhancing features that benefit both amateur streamers and professional broadcasters. The app, available on Android and iOS, now supports direct streaming to YouTube, Twitch, and Vimeo without requiring third-party applications or extra encoding hardware.
Users can easily choose their preferred platform and enter a secure stream key to start broadcasting. During streaming, the app allows real-time control over settings such as exposure and focus, providing flexibility on the go.
The update introduces support for SRT (Secure Reliable Transport), a modern streaming protocol favored by professionals. SRT is designed to optimize streaming over networks with variable speed and reliability, like the public internet.
In addition to the three native platforms, the app now supports custom RTMP and SRT servers, giving streamers more options for destination platforms.
The app includes enhanced alerts to notify users immediately if an external drive disconnects, helping avoid data loss during the recording of high-resolution, high-frame-rate Apple ProRes files that iPhones cannot record internally.
"Both the Android and iOS versions of the Blackmagic Camera app can now stream directly to YouTube, Twitch, and Vimeo, removing the need for third-party apps or additional encoding hardware."
"The update also adds support for SRT: a more modern streaming protocol frequently used by professional broadcasters that’s optimized for networks whose speeds and reliability are less consistent, like the internet."
Author's summary: Blackmagic’s camera app update enables direct streaming to key platforms with added professional features, simplifying the live broadcast process while improving data safety for high-quality video recordings.
