Jose Urquidy became a free agent after the Detroit Tigers declined his $4 million option for the 2026 season on Thursday. The 30-year-old right-handed pitcher missed most of the last two seasons while recovering from Tommy John surgery but returned healthy to finish the 2025 campaign.
Urquidy struggled during two relief appearances in the regular season for the Tigers. However, he performed well on his rehab assignment, recording a 2.91 ERA with an 18:5 strikeout-to-walk ratio over 21.2 innings pitched.
He is expected to seek a role in a rotation this off-season but may need to accept a minor-league contract to continue his career.
