The Canadiens had a slow start on Saturday against Utah, but after taking the lead in the second period, they never looked back. They delivered their strongest offensive effort of the season.
The Utah Mammoth, formerly known as the Arizona Coyotes until 15 months ago, came to Montreal just two points behind the Canadiens. Both teams play a similar fast-paced style and feature young rosters, with Utah noted for its ability to keep pucks away from the net.
Returning to the Bell Centre to begin a home stand, the Canadiens were eager to rebound from two disappointing losses in a shootout and overtime. The key question was whether they could raise their intensity and secure a regulation win against a tough opponent.
After conceding an early goal again, the bleu blanc et rouge settled into their season-long style of play. Ivan Demidov and Oliver Kapanen combined for another goal, while Cole Caufield contributed two. Strong goaltending from Samuel Montembeault and late goals by Nick Suzuki and Kirby Dach sealed a convincing 6-2 victory, much to the delight of the fans.
