From 3 to 8 November, Archbishop Paul Richard Gallagher, Vatican Secretary for Relations with States and International Organizations, visited Sri Lanka to celebrate the 50th anniversary of diplomatic relations between the country and the Holy See. The journey underscored the ongoing dedication to peace, dialogue, and cooperation between the two states.
Archbishop Gallagher was welcomed upon arrival by Deputy Minister of Foreign Affairs Arun Hemachandra, according to the Sri Lankan Foreign Ministry. His official schedule, published on the Vatican Secretary of State’s X account, included meetings with national leaders and officials.
As part of the visit, the Archbishop also attended a conference titled
“The Holy See’s Perspective and Commitment to Dialogue and Peace.”The event honored the fifty years of diplomatic relations established on 6 September 1975 and explored ways to deepen mutual understanding.
During his stay, Archbishop Gallagher visited locations affected by the 2019 Easter Sunday attacks, offering solidarity and prayer for the victims and their families.
