Audible has launched The Pillars, a 15,000-square-foot retail and community hub located at 33 Washington Street in Newark’s Arts and Education District. The project aims to support local enterprises and foster community connections.
The debut event in October drew a lively crowd and featured remarks from Newark Mayor Ras Baraka, Audible CEO Bob Carrigan, and State Senate Majority Leader Teresa Ruiz (D-29th District). Local shop owners participating in the new hub also attended.
“The Pillars represents Audible’s most ambitious investment in Newark’s future and stands as the largest philanthropic effort in our company’s history,” said Bob Carrigan.
Announced in September, the project’s ribbon cutting marked the transformation of the ground-floor space into a vibrant anchor intended to attract business, visitors, and community engagement.
For Carrigan, who succeeded Audible founder Don Katz as CEO in 2019, The Pillars is the first major investment in Newark approved under his leadership. The initiative continues Audible’s deep-rooted commitment to the city where it is headquartered.
Author Summary: Audible’s new community hub, The Pillars, symbolizes a renewed investment in Newark’s cultural and economic growth, uniting local leaders and businesses around shared progress.
