A woman and a child drowned after falling into Dandenong Creek near Allan Street this afternoon. The incident occurred around 3:45 pm.
A witness reported that two people were swept away by the water. It is believed the woman tried to help the child but also got into trouble in the process.
Police searched the area, found the unconscious pair, pulled them from the water, and started CPR. Despite emergency services' efforts, both were declared deceased at the scene.
The identities of the woman and child are not yet known. Police will prepare a report for the coroner.
