A woman and a child died after falling into a waterway in southeast Melbourne.
The incident occurred around 3:45 PM on Monday at Dandenong Creek, near Allan Street in Dandenong. Police believe the mother struggled in the water while attempting to rescue the child.
Emergency services arrived promptly and found both unconscious. CPR was performed on the pair, but neither could be revived. Both were declared dead at the scene.
The woman and child have not yet been formally identified. Police are preparing a report for the coroner.
