Police confirmed that a woman and a child drowned this afternoon, November 10, after falling into Dandenong Creek near Allan Street around 3:45 p.m.
According to initial police reports, a witness saw two people swept away by the current after they entered the waterway. It is believed the woman entered the creek while trying to rescue the child but got into difficulty herself.
Emergency responders conducted a search of the area and located both victims unconscious in the water. Officers pulled them to shore and performed CPR, but despite their efforts, the pair could not be revived and were pronounced dead at the scene.
Police said the victims have not yet been formally identified. A report will be prepared for the coroner.
