Several areas in Michigan’s Upper Peninsula faced power outages Monday afternoon, with Houghton County reporting the highest number of affected customers.
Approximately 20,000 outages were concentrated across Baraga, Houghton, Keweenaw, Marquette, and Ontonagon counties.
According to a UPPCO press release, the outages stem from issues with the transmission infrastructure supplying power to the UPPCO system in the Western Upper Peninsula.
UPPCO is actively restoring power but continues to experience heavy call volumes and high website traffic, which may result in longer wait times and limit online access.
“Power is actively being restored. We are still experiencing high call volumes and site traffic, which may result in longer call-waiting times and may impact the ability for customers to access our website.”
