Since its full launch in April 2023, Cameroon’s electronic visa (e-visa) platform has recorded remarkable growth, processing 411,439 paid visa applications and generating a total of CFA46.9 billion in revenue, according to official government statistics.
The e-visa system was introduced to simplify visa procedures for travelers visiting or transiting through Cameroon. By moving the process fully online, the government reduced the need for in-person applications and improved efficiency for both applicants and immigration authorities.
The platform enables users to complete applications, make payments, and track progress remotely. This transformation supports both security enhancements and Cameroon’s broader goal of modernizing public administration through digital technologies.
The CFA46.9 billion collected reflects strong demand from international visitors and Cameroonians abroad. Officials highlight the e-visa system as a contributor to state revenues and a successful example of digital governance in the region.
Government representatives have noted that streamlining immigration processes boosts Cameroon’s global image as a business and tourism destination. In addition to financial results, authorities plan further improvements to ensure faster processing and stronger data protection.
“The e-visa platform has simplified travel formalities while enhancing the transparency of visa issuance,” a government source commented.
Authorities intend to expand the service by integrating it with other digital public services and improving international connectivity. Ongoing system upgrades seek to accommodate a growing number of travelers as Cameroon strengthens its role as a regional hub.
Author’s summary: Cameroon’s fully digital e-visa platform has processed over 400,000 visas since April 2023, raising CFA46.9bn and marking a major step toward streamlined digital governance.
