ASD repurposing empty classrooms for childcare
Anchorage School District (ASD) faces declining student enrollment, resulting in several classrooms lying empty. Jim Anderson, ASD’s Chief Operating Officer, explained that the district is moving ahead with plans to convert some of these unused spaces into childcare facilities.
"We've seen a drop in student numbers, which means some classrooms are not being utilized," Anderson stated.
This initiative aims to address local childcare needs while making efficient use of existing school infrastructure. The district sees this as a practical solution to support families and optimize space that would otherwise remain idle.
