Sikorsky's U-HAWK: Unmanned Black Hawk Variant
Sikorsky's newest helicopter is an unmanned version of its UH-60L Black Hawk, with the cockpit removed to increase cargo capacity and reduce aircrew risk.
The U-HAWK features clamshell doors and a ramp, replacing the traditional cockpit, and utilizes the company's MATRIX autonomous technology. This allows a ground operator to control the aircraft using a tablet.
Company officials hope the U.S. and other militaries see the remotely piloted U-HAWK as a useful new variant of the venerable airframe.
The U-HAWK is touted as a variant that can carry more cargo while freeing up aircrew, making it a potential option as the Army considers retiring its Black Hawks.
