Crosswalk at Carillon Tower 'desecrates' war memorial: Simcoe Legion president

Controversy Over Carillon Tower Crosswalk

A new pedestrian crosswalk at the Carillon Tower in downtown Simcoe has sparked concern among local residents.

Work on the project began this month, involving the reduction of traffic lanes on Norfolk Street North from four to two at the crosswalk, and the installation of a light standard in front of the tower.

The Carillon Tower serves as the town's official war memorial, and some believe the crosswalk's placement is disrespectful.

To my mind it’s poor traffic management planning, and it does desecrate the memorial
, said Bryan Robertson, president and chaplain of Branch 79 Simcoe, Royal Canadian Legion.
