A call has been made by the Meath Council of Trade Unions for a new sculpture to honour Navan's miners, to be located near the Andy Connolly Roundabout in Navan.
The existing 'On the Great Wide Open' sculpture, which pays tribute to the mining industry in Navan, is to be relocated by Meath County Council.
The current monument does not reflect the image of a current day miner.
According to John Regan, chairman of Meath Council of Trade Unions, this is a concern for the miners.
Council officials will present the future location of the sculpture at a Navan Municipal Council meeting.
