A jury in Oneida County is now deliberating whether three state corrections officers are guilty of murdering inmate Robert Brooks at Marcy Correctional Facility.

Prosecutors and defense attorneys presented their closing statements in a packed Utica courtroom, with deliberations beginning around 4 p.m.

According to Onondaga County District Attorney William Fitzpatrick, the prison guards turned into "a gang of murderers" on the night of Dec. 9, 2024, launching three attacks on inmate Robert L. Brooks, ultimately leading to his death.
