The public prosecution department has announced that the number of children involved in the Barendrecht sex abuse case has increased to 22.
A 45-year-old man from Barendrecht was arrested earlier this month in connection with a series of suspected sex attacks on children. He has admitted to abusing 19 children, most of whom were around 11 years old and nearing the end of their primary school education.
The suspect, who works in IT, surrendered to police on September 10 after criminal complaints were made against him. His home and a campsite in Hoeven, where he has a caravan, have been searched by police.
According to The Telegraaf, many of the victims are friends of the suspect's own children. A neighbor described the suspect as "a bit of a nerd and not very communicative".
The man reportedly told police that most of the children were coming towards the end of their time in primary school, indicating they were around 11.
