Florida Lawmakers Revisit 'Free Kill' Law Repeal
Florida lawmakers are pushing to roll back the state's "Free Kill" law, a decades-old statute that blocks non-economic damage claims, such as pain and suffering.
The bill, which cleared its first committee stop in the Florida House, aims to reform a law that exists only in Florida and is criticized for blocking justice for families of medical negligence victims.
"This is in no way, shape or form, a bill that is punishing doctors or our medical staff whatsoever," said the bill sponsor, Fort Pierce Republican Rep.
"This bill is simply to repeal a piece of law that is unjust."
The bill sponsor emphasizes that the bill is not intended to punish doctors or medical staff, but rather to repeal an unjust law.
